We lost to India & now to face Lanka for 3rd place.
02 Feb 2010

Even though we lost to India this has been a proud week for the Maldives volleyball as our team played semi-finals of the South Asian Games and at the same moment our International Referee Candidate Mr Ahmed Saleem (Kundi Saleem) has officiated total 5 matches in this Games – Dhaka.  Mr Saleem was as the 1st referee for the matches played against India vs Sri lanka and Bangladesh vs Nepal.  Mr Saleem also officiated as the 2nd referee for the matches played against Nepal vs Pakistan and Bangladesh vs Pakistan.

While,  Mr Ilyas Ahmed, was also as the Jury for the matches played against India vs Sri lanka, Bangladesh vs Pakistan, Nepal vs Pakistan and India vs Afghanistan. This is the first time Maldivian is taking part as a Competition Jury member.

“It is so happy to see our International Referees officiating at these tournaments. This is not the first time our Referees showing their talent in this arena.  Our referees have been performing in the South Asian Games since 1999. And now even our Jury members are into this. I am really proud for them.”  Said, Mr Riyaz, President - Volleyball Association of Maldives, who was the first Maldivian Volleyball Referee officiated at International Level. (at the Nepal SAF-Games 99.) This is the first time Maldivian is been appointed as a Game Jury in an International Volleyball Tournament.

Also in today's first semi-final match. (Sri Lanka vs Pakistan) Mr Saleem was the 1st Referee while Mr Ilyas was the Game Jury.
